The Banishment (12A)
Thursday 2nd April 2009
Andrei Zvyagintsev 2007 - 157 mins
Russia
Language: Russian
Zvyagintsev's economical method of storytelling
with little dialogue and stunning scenery make his films challenging
but engrossing. Alex takes his wife and young children to stay at
his father's old house in the Russian countryside. The idyllic
surroundings provide a peaceful retreat from the city and Alex's ties
with te criminal underground. This promise of peace is soon
shattered. Starts slowly, ends powerfully.
This film had to
be cancelled part way through, due to problems with the projector.
We will try to schedule it into next season's programme.
