playwright/actor Moliere, having been given a theatre by the King is
back in Paris after touring with his company of players and having gone
broke. His debts are covered by Jourdain, a rich man who wants
him to help rehearse a play he has written with a view to seducing a
beautiful widow. Jourdain is married and his designs must remain
secret so Moliere is introduced as an austere priest. Well
received by the critics.
