Private Fears in Public Places (Coeurs) (PG)

Thursday 12th November 2009
Alain Resnais 2006 - 120 mins
France/Italy
Language: French/English

Resnais has taken Ayckbourn's play, adjusted its location and language and turned out a cinema masterpiece.  In Paris, six very different people are looking for satisfying relationships.  It is a simple tale, told honestly from the opening hilarious scenes through to the thought provoking final moment.  A very funny and insightful reflection on relationships and solitude.

Score:  80/00%

Some members' comments:

Very good.. Alan Ayckbourn again.
It was good to have a film at last that was not hard work.  Pity about all the snow though...
Beautiful film, sad and comic at the same time.
Such wit and poignancy.  Encore!
Enigmatic.

Bitter sweet but beautifully crafted.
Strange.
Twisted tales of love.
Not bad - good music and décor.
Rather slower than Ayckbourn would have it.

I hope we get snow like that this year.
When it snows in Paris it snows properly!

Très boring.
