On the Black Hill (15)

Thursday 1st October 2009
Andrew Grieve 1987 - 117 mins
UK
Language: English

The film tells the story of twin brothers and their life on a Welsh farm.  Grieve's film may portray baffled lives in which chances of joy are stifled by a mixture of stiff-necked pride and chapel religion, but it is the look of it that you will remember.

Score:  87.16%

Some members' comments:

A dlightful film
Totally captivating
Superb makeup and choice of music
Unusual, entertaining
Seemed so true, better than a history book.  Aging prosthetics were excellent.
Really Welsh.
Thank God we are little England beyond Wales!
Story well told and makeup a challenge
Touched a nerve
Beautiful scenery and heart warming story of brotherly love.
Enjoyable.  Good acting.
Nice, but skated on thin sentimentality.
Come home to Wales - for religion, rain, rancour and death!

Very disjointed story and why all the mist?
Lovely story but not a good film - bad photography.
Pre "Edge of Darkness" Bob Peck.  How intense was he?
More cheerful than the book.
Too many clichés
Gloriously melancholic Welsh at best
What was with the horse porn?  As depressing as expected.  Very enjoyable.
A bit dour.
